You’re My Everything Harissa Sauce (GF + V)

This sauce is called “You’re My Everything” because it literally goes with everything and anything you can imagine.

With just a handful of shelf-friendly ingredients and cherry tomatoes, you’ve got yourself an astounding sauce that can be paired with whatever your heart desires.

Let’s break down the ingredients:

  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Olive oil
  • Harissa paste
  • Tomato paste
  • Anchovies or miso paste for vegetarians/vegans
  • Salt

WHAT IS HARISSA?

Great question. Hailing from North Africa, harissa is a red chili paste or sauce made of a few simple ingredients including chiles, garlic, olive oil, citrus and a few warm spices. It’s slightly sweet, smoky, tangy, and spicy. You can purchase harissa or make it yourself.

WHAT DO I PAIR THIS SAUCE WITH?

In my most recent iteration, I’ve paired it with parpadelle, with pappare meaning ‘to gobble up’ in Italian, which is apt for this sauce. Nonetheless, you can marry this sauce with any of the following:

  • Slice of bread. If you’re in the NYC area, Fabrique Bakery is a must for delicious gluten-ful bread. For strictly gluten-free people, this gluten-free focaccia looks super yummy, but you can just as easily pair this dish with another gluten-free sandwich bread.
  • Pasta. If you’re gluten-free, my favorite gluten-free brands are from RummoJovial (cassava spaghetti is great if avoiding corn), and Bionatura.
  • Quinoa or rice. Sprouted brown rice would bring a delectable nutty component to this dish.
  • Sautéed kale or swiss chard.
  • Hummus. If you’re not making your own, Holy Hummus is my go-to.
  • Chickpeas.
  • Chicken.
  • White fish.
